GOSHEN — Hundreds gathered to say goodbye Saturday to long-time Indiana Senator Marvin Riegsecker. The 71-year-old died earlier this week of cancer.

He served Indiana's 12th district, including Elkhart County, for 20 years.

Family, friends, colleagues, and constituents attended his funeral Saturday afternoon at the College Mennonite Church in Goshen.

After the service, the funeral procession included a state police escort to the cemetery.

"It's tremendous to see the outpouring not only of his colleagues from Indianapolis, but from the people that he represented," said State Representative Bill Ruppel of North Manchester. "They will miss him and he will be sorely missed in Indianapolis by all the people of Indiana."

Riegsecker was well-known for authoring the state's no-call list against unwanted telemarketing.

He also pushed to provide services to those with developmental disabilities.

GOD Bless his soul....but his actions here are still not very appreciated...he and the defeated, John Ulmer, and TIM NEESE need to pay the price of voting against the people they are charged with representing !

This was an exemplary human being who was a public servant and his example will live with us forever. We need to pray for the love ones who I am sure are in pain for a great loss. Dear Jesus, we pray for your servant who is with you and who left us with so much pain and sorrow that we cannot contain our tear flowing from our eyes. May your compassion and forgivness fall upon those left behind and when it is our turn to go back to you in eternity we want to see him in glory and rejoice with you.
