Firefighters battle Lincoln Way West house fire
Firefighters battled a vacant house fire at 1031 Lincoln Way West in South Bend on Sunday, October 5, 2008. (WSBT photo) SOUTH BEND — As many as 13 companies battled a vacant house fire around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon on South Bend's west side, according to the South Bend Fire Department. Sirens filled the air after the blaze was reported in a two-story house at 1031 Lincoln Way W., which is located west of Portage Avenue near Sherman Avenue, dispatchers said. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second and third floors of the home. Firefighters had it under control in about 20 minutes. Emergency crews had to close Lincoln Way West for about an hour. No injuries were reported. |
