GOSHEN &mdash: Goshen police are offering women some advice after the arrest of a man they say was preying on women in local stores.

Travis Rutherford is behind bars facing charges connected to accusations he followed women around stores and took pictures up their skirts using a cell phone. In at least one case police say he even assaulted a woman by touching her inappropriately.

"Most people head to the store and they have so much on their mind they aren't even thinking about predators," said Detective Alan Mackowiak with Goshen Police.

Mackowiak says women need to be very aware of their surroundings. He also says when you are done shopping get into your car and leave the parking lot, don't park next to a van and if someone comes near you make a scene.

"If something does happen, scream, yell — draw attention to yourself," he said.

In the case of Rutherford, Mackowiak says most women were reporting what was happening and that helped police track Rutherford down.

Annie Envall with Sex Offense Services in South Bend says most sexual crimes go unreported. She says reporting can make a big difference.

"It's better to make a report and have it be nothing than to not make a report and then come to find out this happened to several other people," said Envall.

My mother drives a van. Wonder what she should do? Just circle the parking lot?

someone: they are damaged on the inside, and they know it, and they want to wreck life for other people. That's their only pleasure in life; to hurt other people. Maybe it's revenge on God or nature or whatever for making them the way they are... who knows. There are a lot of people who are like this in one way or another. Some are messed up sexually. Some are just jerks playing their subwoofers too loud. And everything in between.

Eastside Joe, my husband drives a van because he is a family man and we have a van load of beautiful little girls. He is not as afraid to drive a van as some men from what I see here. I guarantee you if he saw a man doing that to another female, as big as he is, they would not walk, or run away. He is mildly old fashioned and is very protective of women in general and very respectful.

I did that at a fast food counter. I was standing there patiently waiting my turn and some guy pushed me and I went into my 'Rain Man' panic play. Grabbed my head by the hair, elbows parallel to the ears, rocking back and forth while screaming, "Four minutes til Wapner! FOUR MINUTES TIL WAPNER!!!" You'd be surprised at how fast they take your order once they've seen THAT routine. They even super-sized it and told me to call first next time; they'd have it ready to be picked up at the drive thru!

Just another reason why women shouldn't try to be thin. When you're fluffy, no one cares.

I can't count the number of times I've come out of the store to find my car eclipsed by vans and suvs. I never worried before, but I suppose now I will ask someone in the store to walk out with me, at least, until I get my carry permit. Too many pathetic butter-brained little freaks out there.

Wait a minute. I thought the sex offender registry would protect us from this kind of thing. My local congressman said that the registry was to protect me. Just another example of what a joke the registry really is. It protects no one!!!! The registry is a false sense of security and does more harm than good. The justice system does not protect anyone it just makes you feel like you are safe.

This predators are all over the place. I am afraid to go to the shower. I have to close all my drapes and windows have to be closed real tight because there is always some peeping tom around looking at my bathroom window. Now, at night, it is another nightmare. I got a Rottwiler and a Chiwawa for company. But they tell me that they shoot the dogs and enter in the house just to have sex and then leave women terrorize. Why are men acting the way gorillas do? Dont they have some education?

I imagine these sorts of guys get a thrill out of this sort of behavior that they would not get otherwise.

That's disgusting. There is my whole reason for not wearing skirts or low cut shirts. And when I get stared at, I do make a scene. I yell at them and ask them if they have a problem and they seem to look away. I guess it pays off that I am such a mean and outspoken person :)

I just don't get these freaks. I am a male. It really isn't that difficult to go to a bar or nightclub, meet some girl and get to know her, well, maybe it is for some guys.
