SOUTH BEND — A gas leak has closed Notre Dame Avenue between LaSalle Avenue and Madison Street Saturday morning.

A work crew digging at a construction site broke a gas main, South Bend fire Capt. Mark Dahms said.

The Women’s Care Center, at 907 E. LaSalle Ave. was evacuated as a precaution, Dahms said.

The neighboring St. Joseph Regional Medical Center was not impacted, he said.

The Northern Indiana Public Service Co. is sending a crew to fix it and the situation is expected to be resolved within an hour of the crew’s arrival, Dahms said.

I paid my gas bill but they cut it anyway saying that there is outstanding debt from old bills. If the landlord does not pay his part of the pie, then we tennants do not have to pay their debt. I am relaxing to know that this winter will need parkas and coats to sleep with. Them gas bills will be sky high. Of course there is the economy now that is making everything go lower. But it is for a short time only. I worry for the kids that will suffer the flu and the freeazing house to go in.

Relax, Latisha. It seems as if you have enough gas to last the winter. Calm down. "No one cut your gas" unless you don't pay the bill. LOL

Are we gona loose our gas in our house because of this rupture? They should mark where is the gas lines all over the place so when crews start digging will not hit any gas lines. It could explode in a ball of fire and kill lots of people. Would someone tell to mark all the streets and make lines showing where gas is trasported to homes and businesses? That way we will not have a cut in our gas services. Winter is coming and the prospect of cutting our gas is up. I hope no one cut our gas.
