ELKHART — The Elkhart Community School Board has fired a teacher for texting a student after he was told not to contact her.

Dennis Jay was placed on administrative leave September 3.

He taught history and served as the varsity boy's soccer coach at Elkhart Central High School.

A complaint was filed against Jay for having an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

The same day administrators told him not to contact the student, he sent her a text message.

Jay taught world history and coached soccer for five years at Memorial High School in Elkhart before taking the position at Elkhart Central.
