A homicide victim found in a field October 12 has been identified by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, but investigators still do not know what or who caused the Hispanic farm worker's death.

And they need your help.

The victim has been identified as Miguel Angel Perez-Calixto, 35. Perez Calixto was found by a local farmer who had been checking his crop on the northeast corner of 76th Avenue and Territorial Road in Hamilton Township, in northern Cass County, officials said.

An autopsy conducted on Oct. 13 led investigators to rule the death a homicide.

There are no suspects at this time.

But investigators are attempting to locate and validate a tip called into the Cass County Sheriff's Department on Sept. 25 that might be connected to the death of Perez-Calixto. The tip had indicated a homicide had occurred in northern Cass County around Sept. 5.

Perez-Calixto is believed to have been a seasonal farm worker in the area with ties to South Carolina, Florida and Mexico. And it is believed that he was killed at a different location and his body disposed of in the field, authorities said.

The victim appeared to have been in the field for some time.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, which has been attempting to locate any family of Perez-Calixto that may be in southwest Michigan, asks that anyone who might know the victim or his family to contact them.

Anyone who has information as to where Perez-Calixto had been and/or was working and living should contact the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office at (269) 657-3101, the Cass County Sheriff's Office at (269) 445-2481 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 342-7867.
