PLYMOUTH — Bringing down the cost of your winter heating and electricity bills can be cheap and easy.

John Vialard is an energy adviser with the Marshall County REMC. Vialard says simple things can reduce your energy use and bring your bills down.

"Towels, don't use huge towels, they take longer to dry and you can't get as many in the machine," he said.

He also says replacing your furnace filter twice a year, or every month if you have pets, will make your furnace more efficient.

"And turn down your furnace and hot water heater, especially if you are out of town," he said.

Vialard also has a meter for light bulbs and compared two. The compact fluorescent bulb used significantly less energy than a traditional light bulb.

He says covering windows with plastic, caulking any window panes and sealing doors will help bring your bills down.
