MISHAWAKA — WSBT Radio began broadcasting live from their new facility on Douglas Road in Mishawaka on Thursday.

Sunny 101.5, Cat Country 99.9 and News Talk 960 WSBT all broadcast from their new studios.

Jack Reichert of Sunny 101.5 got a loud cheer and applause from radio staff as he began his Lunchtime 70s Show.

Reichert said he was very nervous.

"You know how it feels? It feels like I'm back in college and my first day on the air again, because as you can see this is all brand new equipment," he explained.

Jim Roberts, Program Director and Operations Manager for the WSBT Radio Group, said Thursday's broadcast was exciting ... and a big relief. "We've been working on this for 2 1/2 years," he said.

Roberts said the building offers state of the art broadcasting facilities.

"This is really most special to the employees at WSBT Radio. This is a beautiful building, brand new equipment, we are very fortunate," he added.

WSBT Radio first broadcast out of the South Bend Tribune building in the 1920s, then moved to the facility on Jefferson in the 1950s. Radio and TV have been there ever since.

"The expectation is that anyone listening won't know the difference whether we are at our old building or new building. They shouldn't hear anything different, we hope," Roberts said.

WSBT-TV will be moving to the new television broadcast facility in November where we'll begin broadcasting in High Definition.
