SOUTH BEND — Halloween may be a week away, but several ghosts and goblins have already taken up residence at the Newman Recreation Center.

The city's Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring it's third annual "Night of Fright" haunted house to help raise funds for its summer playground program.

"This program has been running for 60 years," said Loretta Kollar.

But Kollar says it's in danger of getting cut with the city facing significant budget troubles in the coming years.

"Money is really tight and this may be one of the programs that may disappear if we can't get this haunted house and other fundraising to work," she said.

The haunted house is open from 6-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday night. Admission is $7 a person or $3 for young kids who want to go through the children's section.

The Newman Center is located across the street from the Farmer's Market on South Eddy Street.
