TOPEKA — Champion Homes announced they are shutting down one of three plants in Topeka, laying off 120 workers effective Friday.

In May, the company relocated its Dutch Housing plant in LaGrange to Topeka, where it already had a Redman Housing plant. At that point they had such a backlog of orders they re-started an idled third plant in Topeka.

But now company officials say those orders are caught up and they're heading into a slower season.

Managers told employees about the closing last month.
