BOURBON — Police are investigating a threatening note found in a restroom at Triton Junior-Senior High School on Tuesday, according to the school superintendent.

The note made reference to killing people on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, according to a statement sent to the media and posted on the school corporation’s website.

The threat was discovered by a student Tuesday evening after hundreds of people had access to the school because of precinct voting at the gym, play practice and athletic events, Bourbon Police Chief John West said.

The school corporation contacted the Bourbon Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. The Indiana State Police are also investigating.

“As a school corporation, our students’ and staff safety is our number on priority,” said Superintendent Carl Hilling. “We have taken the necessary and additional precautions to insure that our buildings are safe and secure.”

Hilling said a decision concerning whether to hold classes Nov. 19, or any other action in response to the threat, could be made at a meeting planned Nov. 14.

Hilling asked that anyone with information about the incident call the Bourbon Police Department at 574-342-3105, Triton Junior-Senior High School at 574-342-6505 or the Triton School Corporation central office at 574-342-2255.
