MISHAWAKA — Investigators were called to a Mishawaka home early Tuesday morning after receiving a tip about a possible methamphetamine lab.

They arrived at a home in the 800 Block of West Fifth Street at about 2:30 a.m.

Inside, police found all the makings of a meth lab. After an investigation, officers arrested James Kirk, 43, and Maria Armstrong, 34, who were renting the home.

Kirk was preliminarily charged with Possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, manufacturing methamphetamine, and possession of precursors.

Armstrong was preliminarily charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, manufacturing methamphetamine, and possession of precursors.

Neighbors say they saw a lot of people coming in and out of that home and the one next door.

And there are many kids in that neighborhood.

"They're young,” said Tonya Lane, who lives nearby. “Kids come over all the time. They play, you know? They hang out. I figure that's what happened. I never really knew. I'm shocked."

The Indiana Meth Suppression Team cleaned up the home.

Police are also investigating a mobile meth lab, after they say someone drove up in a car containing meth making materials while officers were inside the home.

The investigation continues.
