THREE RIVERS — A case of mutual domestic assault led police to a methamphetamine lab in a Three Rivers apartment Tuesday.

Police say that officers were dispatched to a complaint of an unwanted individual at Erie St. Apartments. There they discovered a 45-year-old Mendon man, who they learned was involved in a mutual domestic assault with his girlfriend, a 49-year-old Three Rivers woman. Both sustained minor injuries in the assault, which occurred at Walnut Meadows apartment complex.

After further investigation, the officers learned the girlfriend was cooking meth in the Walnut Meadows apartment prior to the assault.

After attaining a search warrant, officers found an active meth lab, suspected meth, and materials used in meth production in the Walnut Meadows apartment. Police also arrested the 33-year-old leaser of the apartment, who was present when police made their search.

Police say this second woman was cooking and smoking meth with the woman involved in the domestic assault.

The man and two women were arrested for various drug and assault charges. They were taken to Three Rivers Police Department for processing, then on to St. Joseph County Jail.

A hazardous materials crew from Plainwell was dispatched to the apartment to clean up the active meth lab.
