'Psychological first aid' offered to area military families

SOUTH BEND — Area military families can get free ‘psychological first aid’ via a new offering from the American Red Cross St. Joseph County Chapter.

The “Coping With Deployments: Psychological First Aid for Military Families” workshop is open to military family members of active duty, Reserve and National Guard soldiers, as well as veterans and their families.

The workshop, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 13, will be conducted at the local American Red Cross office, 3220 E. Jefferson Blvd.

Registrations for the course will be accepted through Dec. 5 and can be made by e-mailing Rebekah Go at the local Red Cross office at rebekahgo@stjoe-redcross.org or by calling (574) 234-0191.

The workshop, taught by licensed Red Cross mental health officials, will focus on:

— Resiliency strategies for adults and children.

— How to give immediate support to distressed family members.

— Identifying resources for rapid, in-depth help.
