SOUTH BEND — Formal charges have been filed against the occupants of a Mishawaka home where a meth lab was found this week.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office has charged both James Kirk, 42, and Maria Armstrong, 34, with dealing in methamphetamine, a class B felony.

Kirk, who was on probation after pleading guilty in 2004 to selling meth, was also charged with possession of meth.

Police arrested the pair after a Crime Stoppers tip led officers to the home at 819 E. Fifth St., where the meth lab was found in the garage.

Police found Kirk at the home, where he was questioned and arrested. Armstrong later drove to the home in a car that police allege contained a mobile meth lab.

Bond for both has been set at $3,000, but the prosecutor’s office has asked for a 15-day detainer for Kirk, until it can be determined if he violated terms of his probation.

Kirk was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2004, with 30 years suspended and five years probation. He served 20 months in a state prison before being released in March 2006.

Both are expected to appear in court Friday for arraignment.
