Weather conditions contributed to a few accidents across Michiana Monday morning, leaving authorities to urge drivers to use caution on area roads.

In St. Joseph County, emergency dispatchers said trouble spots included most of Cleveland Road, parts of Bittersweet, and most bridges and overpasses.

Accidents included a crash with injuries at Lincoln Way and Apple in the eastern part of the county.

Problems also were reported along some stretches of the St. Joseph Valley Parkway near South Bend.

In Michigan, roads were described as "definitely slippery," with traffic slowed for an accident along the St. Joseph Valley Parkway near Benton Twp.

Dispatchers reported some slide-offs, but with no injuries. Roads were slippery from 6 a.m. on, with bridges hazardous and caution urged along Interstate 94.

Toll Road authorities said lanes near the Bristol exit had reopened after some slide-offs with minor injuries, but the road remained pretty slick. Eight to 10 slide-offs had been reported by 8 a.m., ISP said.

The National Weather s Service predicted a couple of inches of snow during the day with snow getting heavier by later Monday afternoon and into night.

By night there could be 2 to 4 more inches of snow, with a significant accumulation of more than 6 inches possible by the end of the lake- effect snow storms.

Expected to be particularly heavily hit are LaPorte and Berrien counties, where more than a foot of snow may fall beginning later on Monday.

A lake-effect snow watch was issued by the National Weather Service for Berrien County along with LaPorte, St. Joseph, Marshall and Starke Counties, from Monday night through Tuesday afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 30s with lows dipping into the high 20s tonight.

Drivers are urged to use caution as roads accumulate snow, especially on bridges and overpasses that were already icy early on Monday.
