GOSHEN — A 9-year-old girl escaped injury Monday when a driver disregarded the flashing lights on a school bus and hit her at an intersection.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said Rodney Housour, 42, turned left from Andrew Drive onto Victoria Drive just after 7 a.m., in a neighborhood off Indiana 15 north of Goshen.

The girl, who was walking across Victoria toward the school bus, was in the path of Housour's car.

The child did not complain of injuries, and police said Housour was cited for passing the school bus while loading.
