ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — Various amounts of snow fell overnight, causing problem roads in St. Joseph County and across northern Indiana and southern Michigan on Tuesday morning.

From Rolling Prairie to Mishawaka, heavy snow brought visibility down considerably and slowed traffic. By Tuesday morning, ice was causing some slick conditions.

Also overnight, I-94 was shut down from the Porter exit to Michigan City because of Ice. It re-opened around 12:30 a.m.

Here is what some other state police and county posts were reporting:

LaPorte County — Some minor accidents reported, no closures. Roads are slick.

Michigan City — No closures, no problems.

Berrien County — No problems reported.

Michigan State Police, Niles — Reporting nothing serious. Roads are covered in snow, so drive carefully.

Toll Road 80/90 — Slick with some slide-offs. Plows are clearing.

Indiana State Police in Lowell — Reporting I-94 was closed at one point overnight due to ice, the eastbound lanes between the Porter exit and Michigan City are now open. Westbound also closed briefly due to a UPS truck crash.

Officials are urging drivers to slow down, and leave plenty of extra time to reach their destinations. They expect mixed snow throughout the day.

Indiana State Police ask that you do not call any law enforcement dispatch centers to ask what the road and weather conditions are.

Lines must be kept open for emergency calls, and the best sources for road and weather information are your local media.
