SOUTH BEND — Two stores on opposite ends of town were reportedly robbed late Tuesday within about 20 minutes of each other.

The first robbery reportedly occurred about 9:38 p.m. at the Subway store at 135 E. Ireland Road, near South Michigan Street.

According to South Bend police, a female employee at the store called a friend to keep her company because she didn’t feel comfortable working alone. When she let the friend in the backdoor, police said, the robber pushed his way inside.

The robber reportedly pointed a shotgun at the employee and demanded money. He then fled out the backdoor.

The Subway on Lincoln Way West in Mishawaka was robbed in a similar fashion Saturday, though it is unknown if the two are connected.

The second robbery reportedly occurred just before 10 p.m. at the AutoZone at 3921 W. Western Ave.

According to police, two males, one possibly as young as 14, entered the store and ordered the employees to the back office at gunpoint.

There, police said, they demanded the employees open the safe. They took from it all of the money and fled out the front door.

No arrests were made in either robbery.
