SOUTH BEND — A suspected car thief suffered minor abrasions after he was struck with a Taser while attempting to run from police.

According to Capt. Phil Trent, an officer spotted a stolen gold Chevrolet in the parking lot of the Belleville Shopping Center in the 4600 block of Western Avenue shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When the officer attempted to pull over the car, the driver jumped out and tried to run away. Police gave chase on foot, and the man was struck with a Taser, causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Upon release, he is expected to be booked on auto theft charges, police said.

Amen West Side Resident, you'd think there was a police substation at that 7-11. There is one K-9 officer that is there for several HOURS every day after 3pm. Unbelievable if you ask me, but a friend of mine who's retired SBPD says the K9 guys don't have supervisors on duty most of the time and don't answer any radio calls. What a waste!

Time for a change your an idiot with a low I.Q. My guess is that you think the suspect must have ran because he was black and the cops were white? Your forgetting the part about the car. IT WAS STOLEN! Listen to your future president and stop reading race into everything. Bad apples come in all colors but so do good ones.

Hey "time for a change" at 8:36...you should spend less time here giving your worthless opinions and more time educating yourself. Holy cow man, did you learn to spell at the South Bend schools or what!?!?! You have to learn that before anyone will take your opinions seriously, you need to be able to articulate your opinions intelligently! As it stands now you are a walking advertisement for why to "stay in school"!

Why does it matter what race the suspect is? If you haven't done anything, why is your first instinct to run?
