SOUTH BEND — A man with a gun attempted to rob a Popeyes restaurant on the city’s west side Wednesday evening, police said.

The attempted robbery occurred about 7:50 p.m. at the Popeyes at 2605 Lincoln Way West, near North Olive Street.

According to South Bend police, a man carrying a silver pistol walked into the restaurant and demanded money.

Something spooked the robber, police said, and he turned and ran out the door without any money.

Four employees were inside the restaurant at the time of the incident.

While this robbery attempt was unsuccessful, a hold-up at a fabric store earlier today was the fourth robbery to a business in two days in South Bend — and police expect more this time of year.

The quality and the service at Popeyes has been going downhill for a while now. It's just another buisness that's ripe for closing. As for the robberies, it's commonplace on this side of town. No big deal eh Mayor.

That popeyes is DISGUSTING anyway!! The one on Hickory Rd is MUCH MUCH clean and the service is 100% better! The robber probably would've gotten some drugs instead of money!!!

ann. People committing armed robbery did not buy their gun at a gun store, but out of the trunk of another thief’s car. People are buying guns to protect themselves from scum bags such as the one in this article.

I bet he saw some one that he knew. Some one that would be able to recognize him. So he did a backflip onto the roof with the thing and the hi-yah. He's now retired to a community of quirky elderly people that are lonely because their kids never come to visit them anymore. :( INDIANA RETICULATING SPLINES

He must have "chickened" out !! Seems like a lot of robberies on the west side with a "silver" pistol. Guessing its the same guy doing it all. Hopefully he will stop before he comes across someone else with a gun.. 2 wrongs wont make a right !! Yes times are hard and one may be trying to provide for his family, but is being dead or in jail better ??

Last time I was in a popeyes chicken, something even scarier happened to me. It involved someone coming out in the bathroom too. For a second I thought that popeyes served shrimp too!

I was at a restaurant last week, got spooked and turned and ran out too. I saw an employee coming from the bathroom without washing their hands!
