SOUTH BEND — Purported marital devotion foiled a robbery attempt Wednesday night at the Terrace Lane Subway restaurant.

St. Joseph County Police say two men entered the restaurant about 8:30 p.m. with robbery on their minds.

However, the quick-thinking clerk figured out the men didn't really want subs to go and feigned a quick phone call to his wife. The call was actually to police.

Two men were arrested and one weapon was found.

Mark Baker, 25, of South Bend was preliminarily charged with attempted robbery and possession of a handgun.

Donald Hogan, 31, of South Bend was preliminarily charged with attempted robbery.

This Subway was robbed just two weeks prior on September 6. Police say they don’t yet know if these are the same two suspects from that robbery.
