ALMENA TOWNSHIP, MI — A single-vehicle accident led to minor injuries and one arrest Sunday morning in Almena Township of Van Buren County.

Police say around 3:00 a.m. the driver, a 19-year-old Paw Paw man, lost control of a 2003 Dodge Ram truck due to ice, going off the road and crashing into a tree. The accident occurred on CR 375 just east of 27th Street.

The driver, whose name is being withheld pending possible criminal charges, received minor injuries. He was treated and released from Lake View Hospital in Paw Paw.

The passenger also received minor injuries, but refused treatment. He was arrested for Minor in Possession (MIP) of Alcohol, and lodged at Van Buren County Jail.

Police say the crash remains under investigation, and alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

3 a.m. means they were probably leaving a party, not a bar. Both were underage and bartenders in Michigan have stringent punishments for serving minors. The area where they had the accident is sparsely populated. With the state of Michigan's economy, one can't expect police to be on every road at single moment. The kids are lucky it wasn't worse. They could have died or killed someone else. If we are lucky, they will have learned a valuable lesson and not repeat their mistake.

At three Am is too early to drive during snowy roads that can cut access to help righ away if you are stuck. We need more cotrol of drunkards on the road so they wont be a nuisance and they might as well end up dead in the middle of nowhere. If a bartender see someone leaving their place drunk tell them not to do it because it is too dangerous in this cold to drive drunk. Help him get a ride to his home or call a cab for him so he wont be left standing in the cold or killing someone along the wa
