GOSHEN — Supreme Industries Inc., a company that makes specialized commercial vehicles, is preparing to deliver Indiana’s first district mobile command center vehicle.

It’s part of a $2.1 million contract from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The company on Monday will present the first completed mobile command center vehicle to representatives of Dearborn County, which is in southeastern Indiana.

The vehicle, with a satellite dish on top, looks similar to a TV news live truck. The mobile command centers include communication systems that will be inter-operational with each other and with the state’s Homeland Security command base.

The company has a contract to produce four additional mobile command center vehicles that will be used throughout the state.

Anonymous...I happen to know the answer to that question..this past year alone: 38 counties were involved with declared disasters. I think it is very safe to say the vehicle would not be spending most of it's time as a parade float.

This thing should have been built in Goshen or Elkhart in the first place. It is 3 or 4 years past its original delivery date. I'm trying to think how many times it will be used in the course of a year other than showing it at the fair and festivals

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but isn’t that a command trailer the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department has? Looks like one to me.

Tax dollars wasted??? Ignorance at it's best. You have no idea on how important this vehicle is. Not only is it important for the States disaster responses, but for our local vendors in Indiana who will supply it. You simply don't understand nor know what you are talking about unless you work in this area. You would be very thankful the next time a major disaster strikes around your home.
