SOUTH BEND — There are only a few days left for you to donate gently used coats so kids in need can stay warm this winter.

For 22 years Ziker Cleaners has been collecting and distributing coats across Michiana for kids who need them as part of their "Coats for Kids" drive.

Jennifer Probst, with Ziker, says this year donations have been a bit slow.

"We've seen a lot less coats come in, and we believe that's because of the economy," she said.

With an even greater need, Probst says this final week of the drive is critical.

"We all have coats that we can clean out of our closets, and so we are asking people to check their closets and donate what they can," said Probst.

Ziker collects the coats at all eight of its locations, and then teams up with local school districts to distribute them. Any remaining coats will be available to the general public on December 13.

If you have a coat to donate, it must be dropped off by this Saturday, December 6.

I got a lot of coats, swaters, boots and the like for children and adolescents. I know lots of adolecents read this opinion line and would like to say something about giving to the homeless and deatitute people. A lot of children come to school with only light sweaters and no boots at all. Would someone tell those who are giving away to open up a pantry or clothes lines in all churches specially the Baptist churches should get involved. So all children will see good example of giving to the poor
