SOUTH BEND – A 2-year-old girl with a fractured skull was taken to Memorial Hospital Tuesday night, and St. Joseph County Metro Homicide police are now investigating.

An update on the South Bend girl’s medical condition was not available Wednesday morning, but police were called to the hospital after doctors there reported the injuries.

According to an initial police report, the girl suffered a fractured skull and "immense swelling" of her head.

Police said it is not known how the girl was injured, but that because of the serious nature of the incident, the case has been turned over to Metro Homicide Unit investigators.

Police also helped the Department of Child and Protective Services gain custody of the girl’s 5-year-old brother, who was found at a relative’s house.

Police are continuing to investigate the case.

There are some good cps workers and then there are some that should be in jail with that man.St. ClairCounty Cps workers in Michigan all need to be investigated all of the good ones quit and went to another agency. You should see what has become of my sister after being in the system for 3years after my father died. She now is on drugs shooting up heroine and did this while she was pregnant andgreen up Kentucky gave her mother custody of the baby and she lost her rights for neglect.

To concerned: maybe you should read the court documents before you bash on the nurse. There were charges filed but we live in a county where you can get away with murder, think about it! He got off easy and the child was placed back into the home.

ER, you did nothing wrong. CPS did. This child was put back into a bad situation and now it is too late to help her again. CPS, did you think something was going to change? I am so tired of hearing of how many children fall through the cracks. My heart aches for all of these children. What is so sad is the thought that the case loads may be too large for each worker? Where is Mitch now? He bragged about how he did good things here. Again, we know different. We need to save these children.

I am not here to preach or to make ignorant comments. This is a serious treatment of children who are left with parents that do not know how to take care of them May be baby sitters are more educated and they can provide an adecuate and loving care. OH: it cost a lot of money ..you say. But it is worthy to the child to be in good hands. Jesus cares for us all because we are his beloved children and much more with children who are at an early age. So restart your prayer again and again till :::

I pray for the family during this hard time. I pray that we find out what really happened and people would stop leaving nasty comments. Please give the family respect and leave the nastiness in your own heart. Jesus is the reason for the season. Please please please respect them.

I too work in the medical field and I would NEVER BASH another AGENCY that is doing the best they can to help situations that are created by people that DON'T CARE!!!! CPS CARES!! They didn't drop any ball!! They come around and pick up pieces with VERY LITTLE compensation or SUPPORT!! They are the only reason this little girl made it as long as she did! They deal with this situation ALL the TIME! You need to support them and encourage the difference they make in this SICK WORLD! GET REAL!

I would like to thank the SBER for giving out the details. No names were mentioned so how was anything violated? Sometimes our local agencies take a bum wrap for things that are beyond their control. If this has happend to this child before, do you really think the parents care or have the RIGHT to care about anythign said about them? Keep in mind what is the bottom line here---that poor child. Pray for her--the Lord is good and will take care of this little one!

Pharisee, shame on you. Encouraging people to pray by showing it is a great thing. Maybe you have not experienced this, but the power of prayer can move mountains. God Bless. I too pray for the well being of this precious child.

This poor angel was mistreated so bad that she had to end up in a hospital bed. This little angels are such a blessings to so many homes and some parents leave them unattended and they get hurt. Please parents be careful and take them to tha nannie or any child care facility so they will have a proper care. We dont want any more little angels like this one hurt. God loves the little children all the children of the world. Yellow, black white and anything else He loves. So take good care of them.

I will Be praying for a full recovery of this poor little girl. We all know that accidents can happen, even with the most attentive parents. It is Standard Operating Procedures to call DCPS and the PD when a child comes in with injuries inconsistent with the story the parents gave. Even in innocent circumstances they are called just to make sure. I will withhold my judgement till more of the story is released (like my opinion matters anyway, LOL)
