MISHAWAKA — One person was taken to a hospital with injuries from a house fire Wednesday night at 229 W. Broadway. Firefighters were called to the scene about 10:45 p.m.

“We had heavy fire from the first floor” when firefighters arrived, said Capt. Bryon Woodward, Mishawaka Fire Department. Firefighters protected a neighboring home from the flames. It took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.

As for cause, Woodward said, the fire is under investigation. No dollar estimate on damage was available, though Woodward said the house’s first floor was heavily damaged.

No firefighters were injured. Woodward said there were two people in the house at the time of the fire. One was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but is expected to be fine; the other was outside when firefighters arrived.

Huh. I didn't realize there was a curfew for house fires. Learn something new every day. Come on, Dillweed. "loaf of meat roasted to the ground"??? Wow.

i wasnt aware that there was certain times that a house fire was probable. there have been many house fires during the night..why is dillweed so concerned as to what caused this fire. the cause of it is not the point of the article. its the fact that we should be thankful that no one was injured . including the firefighters that risk their lives fighting the fire...

dillweed -- are you for real? Just what is the time span for a house fire?

having a fire is not fun. the trama from loosing everything and trying to find a place to stay and the insurnace company wanting a detailed list of every item in the home.. mine was an electrical fire. the 220 shorted out, not my fault and it did extensive damage to my ranch home, 3 months after i got married. Dont judge people, it could have been nothing they could control.

What...No ignorant and judgmental comments predicated by the house location yet? Come on Michiana, where are all insults and hatred that comes out when a house in Granger burns?

Dillweed- fires happen any time of the day, & night it could have been electrical we dont know so do not judge these people. Its bad enough there house was damaged by fire & who knows what all they lost in it, they are in my prayers.

Dillweed, what makes you the expert on what causes fires? Quit being so judgmental and mind your own business. Accidents do happen. Have some compassion for others. Since you seem to be religious, remember the quote: "Ye who are without sin may cast the first stone". I know for sure you aren't "sinless".

Thats too late to have a fire. It is almost in the middle of the night. Are the space heaters checked? Did your furnace was clean up and fans changed? The fires that winters bring are by far the furnaces or the crack houses that set in and the children playing with matches or leaving the house with the oven on and the loaf of meat roasted to the ground. Probable the two people that was living in the house got scared and run out right away. Pray that Jesus will protect your house from fires.
