SOUTH BEND — A woman in the 400 block of South Gladstone Street hid under the bed and called 911 Tuesday afternoon, telling police an unknown man with a gun burst into her home through the back door, South Bend Police Capt. Phil Trent said.

When police arrived on scene shortly before 1 p.m., the man fled the home, Trent said. A St. Joseph County police officer arrested a suspect at the corner of Gladstone and Huron streets a short time later.

The suspect was positively identified by the resident who called 911, Trent said.

He was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
