SOUTH BEND — A South Bend man escaped through a second-story window Tuesday night during a home invasion near Coveleski Stadium, police said.

According to South Bend police, about 7:30 p.m. a man and two women were inside an apartment in the 400 block of South Taylor Street when two masked men forced their way into the residence.

As the male resident ran upstairs, police said, one of the suspects fired a gun. The bullet reportedly struck a wall and a door and then fell to the ground in the second-floor hallway.

Once upstairs, police said, the male resident jumped through a second-floor window, onto the porch roof, and to the ground. He then ran two doors south and called police.

The suspects, meanwhile fled south out the backdoor.

Police reportedly found a single 9 mm shell casing just inside the front door.
