LAPORTE — Two men forced their way into a home on LaPorte’s east side, then ransacked the place with children and a baby sitter inside, according to authorities.

There were threats of violence, but nobody was injured, police said.

Just after 9 p.m. Monday, police said a woman in her 30s answered the front door of a mobile home on East Indiana 2 and two men pushed it open, forcing their way inside.

They demanded money, and the woman was ordered to sit while the men searched the home, said Clyde Crass, LaPorte Police chief of detectives.

After finding no money, the robbers took less than $50 from the woman’s purse and fled, said police.

Crass said it’s believed the children were in bed the entire time and that the baby sitter did not know the robbers.

According to police, the owner of the home was not home.
