Six people were treated for injuries from two separate accidents Friday in Cass County. Police blame both accidents on icy roads. One person remains hospitalized in critical condition.

  • Leonardo Ruiz, 32, of Dowagiac was traveling south on Wilbur Hill Road in LaGrange Township, when he lost control of his vehicle at 1:45 p.m. His vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree.

Ruiz was treated and released from Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital.

  • Five people were treated for injuries from a three-vehicle accident on Marcellus Highway, just west of Atwood Road in Wayne Township at 4:30 p.m.

Shelli Rhoades, 42, of Marcellus, was driving on Marcellus Highway when she lost control of her vehicle. It crossed the center line and struck two other vehicles.

Nancy Shepard, 62, of Dowagiac, was driving the first vehicle struck. Cass County police say she was not injured.

The second vehicle struck was driven by Jessica Tabbert, 19, of Dowagiac. She and two passengers, Shawn and Kyle Tabbert, of Dowagiac, were all treated and released from Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital.

Rhoades and a passenger in her vehicle, 18-year-old Kassie Rhoades of Marcellus, were taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. Shelli Rhoades was treated and released.

Kassie Rhoades was later transferred to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. A hospital spokesman said she was in critical condition early Saturday morning.
