GOSHEN — The Goshen Police Department is investigating a report of a possible police impersonator.

About 4:20 p.m. Monday, a 17-year-old girl told police a vehicle behind her turned on a yellow/amber flashing light on top of the vehicle in the vicinity of South Eighth Street. The girl said she pulled over and a man approached her vehicle and told her she should be driving with her headlights on, and requested she get out of the vehicle, police said.

The girl told the man she was receiving a call on her cell phone. The man said he would just give her a warning, returned to his vehicle and drove away, police said.

The man was wearing a blue jumpsuit and driving an older model dark blue car with a rounded front end.

According to Indiana law, a police officer conducting a traffic stop must either be wearing a distinctive uniform and a badge of authority, or operating a vehicle that is clearly marked as a police vehicle.

This is the third time since August someone has reported a police impersonator in Elkhart County.
