ROCHESTER — People in Rochester have a lot of cleaning up to do. Friday's ice storm knocked down dozens of tree limbs and power lines.

It’s the sound people in Rochester are certainly getting used to.

“A mess,” said Rochester resident, Terry Croussore.

“Pretty bad,” said Rochester resident, Matt McFarland.

“It’s just been crazy," said Rochester resident, Josh Lease.

Friday’s ice storm knocked down dozens of power lines. At one point more than 4,000 people lost power throughout Fulton County.

“My job closed because the transformer blew,” said McFarland.

Snapped tree limbs also covered the streets, while neighbors like Terry Croussore cleaned up the damage.

“I’ll probably be here all day cleaning this," said Croussore.

Kids enjoyed a relaxing day off as dozens of schools canceled classes.

“It’s just weird. I’ve never seen tree limbs covered in ice like that,” said Lease.

The thick, heavy ice is creating potential dangers. That’s why police are urging people to stay away from trees.

“With the weight of the ice, the ones that are still standing will eventually come down,” said Rochester Police Chief Jodi Miller.

“I’d rather of had the snow than this...I like to shovel snow, I don’t like to cut trees in the middle of winter,” said Croussore.

Fulton County REMC officials say 2,500 customers are still without power. They hope to have it restored by Sunday.

And Duke Energy officials say about 2,000 of their customers are still without power. They hope to have power restored by 6 p.m. Saturday.
