Numerous local and out-of-state power company crews are working Saturday to restore electric to thousands of central and northern Indiana customers left cold from Friday’s ice storm.

Crews and customers may see some sun early Saturday, but clouds are expected to increase as the day goes on. Saturday’s high temperature will be near 30 degrees.

As of late Friday night, more than 74,000 central and northern Indiana customers were powerless — the result of Friday’s ice storm.

Additional local I&M crews from southwest Michigan, South Bend, Elkhart and out-of-state crews from Kentucky and West Virginia are working to restore power to customers, according to the company’s Web site.

Fewer than 50 Duke Energy customers in Kosciusko County have yet to have their electric service restored, according to that power company’s Web site. In the Rochester area, Duke Energy has roughly 2,000 customers without power. Company officials hope to have all those customers’ service restored by 6 p.m. Saturday.

In Fulton County, Rural Electric Membership Corp. officials hope to have all electric restored by Sunday to the approximately 2,500 customers there without power.

Indiana Michigan Power is reporting electric service should be restored by Wednesday to the majority of its customers in the greater Fort Wayne area, Decatur and Avilla areas.
