MISHAWAKA — An accident that closed part of Douglas Road was one of a number of crashes and slide-offs late Saturday.

St. Joseph County police say a car slid off the road between Fir Road and Capital Avenue and hit a gas meter on a house just before 8 p.m.

A section of the road was closed because of a small gas leak.

Police tell WSBT that several cars slid off the road in that area because of icy conditions.

The road was reopened just after 12:30 a.m., county authorities said.
