SOUTH BEND — South Bend authorities say a second-floor bedroom fire caused $10,000 in damage to a home undergoing renovations Saturday night.

The Fire Department was called to the vacant home at 1201 S. Sylvan Lane just before 9:20 p.m. after a neighbor saw the house on fire.

When they arrived, they found flames and smoke at the rear of the dwelling.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and its cause remains under investigation.

South Bend crews later were called to a home in the 1100 block of North College Avenue.

That fire, quickly contained to a stove, was reported about 10:50 p.m.

No one was injured in either incident.
