SOUTH BEND — Area residents meeting flights or scheduled to depart on flights at South Bend Regional Airport Friday are encouraged to call the airline first to check for delays.

The airport remains open and flights are departing, but many people are finding it impossible to reach the airport because of the icy roads, an airport spokesman said at 9:20 a.m. Friday.

O’Hare and Midway airports in Chicago also got hit by the ice storm, so that may result in some flight cancellations or delays that impact departures or arrivals in South Bend, he said.
