SOUTH BEND - The emergency rooms at both Memorial Hospital and Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center were flooded this morning with ice-related injuries.

Before noon, Memorial saw more than 50 people who’d fallen on the ice and injured themselves. Some required surgery, some didn’t - but almost all of them involved orthopedic injuries, said Diane Stover, vice president of marketing

Also, Memorial received patients from three car accidents, she said.

Emergency room staff at Saint Joseph also reported lots of patients who’d been hurt by the icy conditions.

Doctors at both hospitals were too busy treating injuries to talk with The Tribune.
