Many in Michiana reported power outages early Sunday morning as a cold front brought high winds and heavy rain to the region, bringing down large trees and power lines.

About 9,800 people were without power across the area as the cold front first moved through.

Indiana Michigan Power spokeswoman Marta Elliott said about 1,000 customers woke up in the dark on the south side of Michiana, with the remaining 800 in Berrien County.

As of 1:00 p.m., IMP spokeswoman Jill Korte reported 382 outages in South Bend and 78 in Elkhart. Problems were no longer reported in Michigan.

Midwest Energy Cooperative officials said about 8,000 of their customers were without power in Cassopolis Sunday morning.

At 1:10 p.m., MEC officials said they were cleaning up a handful of outages, and full power was expected to return around 2:00 p.m.
