SOUTH BEND — No one was injured in a South Bend house fire that remained under investigation Sunday night.

The Fire Department was sent to the home at 414 S. Sheridan St. on the city's west side about 9:20 p.m. and found heavy smoke at the scene when they arrived.

Firefighters put out flames discovered in the basement and the home was boarded up. But they returned shortly before 2 a.m. when the fire rekindled, city emergency dispatch said.

The second fire was quickly extinguished.

Damages to the single-story building were estimated at $15,000.
