LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) — A special prosecutor will review a shooting that left a LaPorte County deputy prosecutor injured.

Thirty-four-year-old Jennifer Evans was grazed in the head by a gunshot at her home on Dec. 22. She wasn't seriously injured.

Her husband said she was handling a gun that she did not think was loaded when it discharged.

LaPorte County Prosecutor Rob Beckman says an independent review will ensure public trust in the investigation. A judge asked the St. Joseph County prosecutor's office to review the case.

Evans was elected in November as a Superior Court judge in the county just west of South Bend after handling many of the county's highest-profile cases in recent years.
