BENTON HARBOR — Controversy has swirled over plans to turn Benton Harbor's Jean Klock Park into part of an upscale golf course. Now some say a lawsuit to save the park could lead to major delays for the project.

The course is part of the extensive Harbor Shores development. Seven people filed suit to stop the transfer of 22 acres from Jean Klock Park to developers. They say the project needs a more formal environmental study.

Project supporters have asked a federal judge in Grand Rapids to move the case quickly. If it goes past March, the group says the course won't be ready for play this year.

State and federal officials already signed off on the land deal.
