GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — A fight promoter is asking Goshen's city council to change an ordinance banning unsanctioned ultimate fighting after his venue was annexed into the city limits.

The council voted in 2006 to ban the no-holds-barred bouts unless they were sanctioned by a state or national body.

Scott Johnson, who hosts ultimate fighting bouts at Peddler's Village Auction, estimates each show costs as much as $15,000 to produce. He says the cost to have the International Sport Combat Federation sanction them would be prohibitive.

He's asked Councilman Darryl Riegsecker to propose an ordinance Tuesday under which the city would require permits for the bouts.

The ordinance also would require a doctor to be present at all events and set limits on some fight moves — such as banning kicking an opponent in the head while he's down.
