GOSHEN — A car-train accident in Elkhart County led to the death of one person early Monday.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said the 5:35 a.m. accident happened at County Road 15 and County Road 45, near the Meijer store in Goshen.

Timothy Beach, 48, of Goshen was trying to to drive around the crossing gates, say police, when his southbound vehicle was hit by a northwest-bound train

Beach was extracted from the vehicle and airlifted by Samaritan Air Ambulance to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. There he later died from his injuries.

The intersection was closed for a time early Monday as police continued their investigation.
