ISP: Slick roads causing numerous crashes

Roads in the Lowell District of the Indiana State Police — which includes Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski counties — are becoming snow covered and slippery, the ISP warned on Monday morning.

So far the Lowell Post ISP has reported investigating 26 property damage crashes, 4 minor personal injury crashes and 3 slide-offs as of 6 a.m.

There are currently reports of numerous crashes on I-65 between U.S. 30 and Ridge Road in Lake County, and on I-94 between Chesterton and Michigan City in Porter/LaPorte counties, said ISP Sgt. Ann Wojas.

The interstate is open, according to Wojas, but drivers are warned to be prepared for sudden stops and slow-downs.

“Most drivers involved in the crashes today are driving too fast for the road conditions and/or are following too close,” said Lieutenant Lou Brown, commander of the Lowell Post
