Two Ligonier boys die of CO poisoning

By SBT 24/7 News

Two brothers were found dead Monday night near Ligonier, Ind., and authorities say they've traced the cause to a carbon monoxide leak.

The Noble County Sheriff's Office says they were sent about 9:30 p.m. to an Amish family's home in the 5000 block of County Road 1000 North after the boys, ages 12 and 14, were found unconscious at the bottom of the basement stairs.

Authorities say the boys' parents left about 5:45 p.m. to run errands, and asked the boys to use a gasoline-powered pump in the basement in order to fill a water tank for horses near a barn.

A faulty exhaust vent is being blamed in the deaths. The Sheriff's Office and county coroner continue to investigate.
