All eastbound traffic on the St. Joseph Valley Parkway was blocked near County Road 17 because of a semi-truck that jackknifed about 6:30 a.m.

The accident was one of several reported early Tuesday as winds picked up and began to blow falling snow across Michiana.

Mishawaka police dispatch said a truck flipped onto its side a little after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Elm Road and Dragoon Trail. The driver was unhurt.

That intersection will be closed until the truck is towed away.

Authorities headed to a semi-truck rollover about 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Capital Avenue and 12th Street. There were no injuries.

The Indiana State Police Lowell District — which includes Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski counties — say they have responded to 22 accidents. Four of those involved injuries, but none life threatening.

A semi trailer loaded with 43,000 pounds of cheese rolled over, closing the I-80 eastbound to I-65 southbound ramp from 11:15 p.m. on Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, said ISP Sgt. Ann Wojas.

I-80, I-94 and I-65 are open, but police warn left lanes are slick in some areas.

One slideoff accident was reported at Douglas Road and Indiana 933. St. Joseph County officials said they'd had slideoffs across the county but no serious crashes.

South Bend 911 dispatch said roads in the city were snow-covered, but the morning commute had been relatively trouble-free.

Whiteout conditions were reported south of the area near Peru, Ind., as well as west in Pulaski County. There, 911 dispatch said U.S. 421 and U.S. 35 were especially treacherous.
