MISHAWAKA — A lake-effect snow watch has been replaced by a lake-effect snow warning, in effect for most of the area 5 p.m. Wednesday to 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind-chill warning is in effect 6 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday.

The coldest air of the season will move over Lake Michigan Wednesday, bringing with it the possibility of a heavy band of lake-effect, according to the NWS. Isolated near-blizzard conditions are possible as winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected with occasional gusts up to 30 mph. Wind chills could dip between minus 20 to minus 25.

Six to 12 inches of snow are possible in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan along with LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Starke and Marshall Counties in Indiana while anywhere from 2 to 4 inches are possible elsewhere.

A heavy band of lake-effect snow is expected to develop and move through the area from west to east late Wednesday and overnight. Snow will come to an end later Thursday.
