SOUTH BEND — Police are at Teachers Credit Union downtown investigating a burglary that occurred overnight.

Sometime after 12:20 a.m. Friday, someone was inside the building and attempted to break into cabinets and jumped over the bank counter, according to Cpl. Ron Glon, of the South Bend Police Department.

A motion sensor went off at about 1:25 a.m., calling police to the building.

No windows were broken or doors tampered with, so police think the burglar may have hidden inside the building after the close of business.

The credit union, at 110 S. Main St., is open for business Friday as usual.

At about 9:45 a.m. Friday, police remained at the building, dusting for fingerprints and gathering other evidence. Credit union employees are taking an inventory to see if any supplies or other materials are missing.

It does not appear that the burglar gained access to any money, Glon said.

The burglar appears to have left behind a hat and a liquor bottle, and his image was caught on videotape, the officer said.

Police are investigating whether the man is connected with a work crew that was working in the building after closing hours Thursday.
