Applying for unemployment at library

To avoid the crowds at WorkOne locations, more people are heading to the library to file for unemployment. As a result, smaller library branches like Elkhart's Pierre Moran have set up special workstations and waiting areas just for those seeking to access the Workforce Development Web site. Starting Tuesday, nine computers at Elkhart’s Tolson Center will be available for free, public use to file online unemployment claims. No appointments are needed.

Computers will be available between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, according to a press release from Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore. Computer-use help also will be available.

Tolson Center, the city-run youth center, is located at 1320 Benham Ave.

Tolson Center is the latest entity to offer computers for people needing to file online unemployment claims in the wake of Elkhart County's high jobless numbers.
